Quick note -- the Israeli Philatelic Federation has a complete collection of the chess-themed stamps that came out in Israel. They are relatively few, but what is interesting are the stamp-cancellation rubber stamps [I hope it is clear what I mean...] used on particular days to commemorate events.
These rubber stamps were used on particular days in particular cities to cancel stamps in the mail, as a way to commemorate an event in that city. So, for example, in Jerusalem on August 9th, 1968, stamps were cancelled with a rubber stamp commemorating the 9th youth chess championship; on Sept. 11th 2006 in Ashdod, mail was cancelled with a rubber stamp commemorating the 3rd international chess festival, etc.
